A 2-minute silence is observed at 11am on November 11th - the time and date when hostilities formally ended after more than four years of battle during World War I. Poppies are worn as a symbol of respect and tribute.

The day is marked by memorial services, church services and parades. A national commemoration takes place at Whitehall, a road in the City of Westminster in central London.

LOCALLY

Across WIltshire parade, services and tributes are carried out in towns and villages.

Including SWINDON:-

9th November: 2pm Radnor Street Cemetary - special and traditional service including 150 Guides, Scouts and Brownies.

11th November:-

9.15am Handing over the poppy wreath for Swindon to The Queen and Lord Lieutenant at Swindon Railway Station.

11am Remembrance Service at the cenotaph, Regent Street, Swindon.

3pm Stratton St Margartet Parish, service at the memorial, corner of Grange Drive and Ermine Street.

15th November

10am 80 trees planted at Lydiard Park, representing 80th anniversary of VE Day

POPPIES are on lamp posts around East Swindon.

POPPY Displays are on display around West Swindon.
