Home A Hen

The British Hen Welfare Trust is holding a rehoming event in South Marston, near Swindon on Sunday 26 July.

320 ex-commercial, caged laying hens urgently need retirement homes.

These are hens who have reached the end of their commercial laying lives at around 18 months old, but still have plenty of life — and personality — left.

The charity is asking local animal lovers to come forward by 4pm on Friday 24 July so the hens can be sent off to safe, happy homes rather than face slaughter.

Local BHWT volunteer Natalie Winchurch, who has rehomed hens herself, says:

“Hens are funny, friendly, full of personality and much more affectionate than people realise. Seeing them change once they have fresh air, room to move and kindness is incredible. They make amazing pets.”
